GQ Magazine Front Cover Analysis
GQ Magazine front cover analysis
This edition of the GQ magazine has Pop artist Sam Smith on
the front cover. This means that the magazine would most likely want to appeal
to a pop audience. On the front cover of this magazine there is almost a
completely monochrome cover. This could has retro themes to it meaning so the
music could be for a more mature audience. More meanings that could be taken
from this colour scheme could be a harmonious, peaceful feel to it. This colour
scheme could’ve also been chosen to attract the viewers attention to Sam
Smith’s face (the only bit in the magazine that is not monochrome). This would
make sense as the magazine is about him and it would make sense to bring the
attention to him. The London skyline is also seen in the background. Seeing
this skyline could also make an impression of wealth and class with normally
the only people that could see this being people living in expensive apartments.
The overall effect this front cover has on the reader is that they feel like
they are in a position of wealth and importance from being able to see the
skyline of London and that they will have a connection to Sam Smith with him being
in the centre of the frame and how he immediately grabs their attention with
him staring straight forward, making eye contact with them.
